Here is a volunteer opportunity on Saturday.

The Steelville Star Stream Team and Steelville Tourism Committee have scheduled a Yadkin Creek Trash Bash for Saturday, August 24. The event is being held ahead of the committee’s Yadkin Creek Duck Race, which will be held during Harvest Festival on September 7.
Volunteers from the community are welcomed and encouraged to participate. Workers should plan to gather along the creek behind the Crawford County Health Department on the old city hall parking lot at 8 a.m. Two teams will be picking up trash from Hoppe Spring Park to Britton-Bennett Funeral Home and from the funeral home to the Community Park.
All those planning to attend should wear shoes that can get wet and bring gloves. Trash bags and water will be provided.
The Yadkin Creek Trash Bash is being held as part of Missouri’s 57th Annual Operation Clean Stream. Every August, volunteers take to the Meramec River and its tributaries, working to undo the damage caused throughout the year by flooding, careless littering, and the unlawful dumping of debris. Volunteers participate in canoes and boats, on the shore, in nearby parks, and along trails.
Operation Clean Stream is sponsored by Open Space STL. For more information visit openspacestl.org. For more information on the Yadkin Creek Trash Bash contact Rob Viehman at rviehman@steelvillestar.com or (cell) 573-774-8611.
